2024 impact: the road to a better future

In 2024, we participated in an array of initiatives to benefit the planet and our local communities. Our efforts focused on four critical areas: Climate; Waste, Recycling & Circularity; Community Impact; and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI).
Climate
In 2023, tms continued its partnership with Planet Mark, a sustainability certification and net zero provider which helps organizations reduce emissions, create operational efficiencies, and enhance profits. In addition to earning the certification for the fourth year in a row, tms won Planet Mark’s 2023 Employee Engagement Award for its inaugural World Cleanup campaign, which spanned 52 days and involved 914 participants who logged 1,868 volunteer hours and collected 7,056 kg of litter.
tms has taken strides to reduce emissions from office operations, business travel, raw materials, and manufacturing. In 2023, building emissions alone dropped more than 90% in Chicago and 79% in London — all from a 2019 baseline.
Waste, Recycling, and Circularity
In both London and Chicago, we consolidated offices and downsized our space commitments to account for our hybrid work model that continues to evolve following the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of these significant changes, we reduced our total waste, decreased landfill emissions by 77%, and reduced emissions from recycling by 43%.
In addition to implementing our own waste reduction strategies, we also want to help our clients find sustainable solutions. For McDonald’s, we are exploring ways to reduce plastic waste and achieve greater circularity through solutions like strawless lids and alternatives to PE lining such. For a global specialty coffee brand, we designed five reusable beverage vessels made from recycled and poster-consumer materials.
Community Impact
Our partnership with clients like McDonald’s extends beyond business, as exemplified by our ongoing involvement with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). From London and Germany, all the way to the US, tms has participated in a plethora of volunteer events at RMHC, spending time cooking, gardening, spreading holiday cheer, and even helping open a new facility in Hong Kong.
In Seattle, we continued to support GMS’ 20-year partnership with the Pike Place Market Foundation by supporting the foundation’s annual dining extravaganza, The Sunset Supper, which raised more than $600,000.
DE&I
We believe that we achieve the best outcomes when people from diverse backgrounds collaborate and share their unique perspectives. Through events which commemorate holidays like Windrush, Juneteenth, Pride Month, and South Asian Heritage Month, we strive to foster an equitable environment where everyone feels represented. We have also made tangible progress in our DE&I goals to increase female, racially, and ethnically underrepresented talent in leadership roles.
