tms is excited to announce our parent company HAVI received the approval of its near and long-term carbon emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This is the second recognition for HAVI by SBTi, whose ambitious standards define and promote the best practice in science-based target setting for corporate organizations. These targets integrate tms, Stanley, and our Supply Chain goals and recognize work over the last six months to communicate our 2018 baseline data and the projection for reduction.

The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. SBTi’s objective is to accelerate companies across the world to halve emissions before 2023 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. To do so, The SBTi assesses companies near-term and long-term commitments against the SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard Criteria.

SBTi’s commitments are classified by near and long-term strategies, defining how companies address the current climate crisis through science-aligned objectives. The UN currently describes the climate crisis as a “code red for humanity,” urging companies and individuals to take measures to help stay below the global temperature rise threshold of 1.5°C. SBTi classified our company’s scope as 1 and 2 near-term target ambition and determined it is in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. Our long-term 1, 2, and 3 target ambition are also aligned with SBTi’s 1.5°C mitigation pathways for reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or sooner.

HAVI’s near-term commitments for 2030 include reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50.4%, reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions from supply chain services by 40.1% per tonne-kilometer, and reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 41.1%. Our long-term commitments to achieve by 2050 include reducing absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 90%.

Our Global Sustainability team is working closely with our talented business partners and Subject Matter Experts throughout tms to develop detailed roadmaps to achieve these targets

The SBTi commended us for our ambitious net-zero target, currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process. This significant achievement validates the credibility of HAVI and tms’ approach while supporting the net zero goals of McDonald’s, as well as our other customers.

HAVI reduced CO2 per tons delivered by 21% at the end of 2022 with a 2015 baseline which represents half of the 40% reduction commitment by 2030. Staying true to our value of “Do What’s Right,” our target approval from the SBTi shows how HAVI, in conjunction with tms, is prioritizing climate action to both future-proof our business and embrace a more sustainable world. This validation also supports HAVI’s Better Future Blueprint enterprise-wide framework to create a better future for people, communities and the planet.
