Purpose in practice: two tms-ers share their talents beyond the office

At tms, we often talk about creating meaningful moments for our clients — but some of the most impactful moments happen when our people step outside the office to share their time and talents with the broader community. Two standout examples of this spirit in action are Malavika (Mal) Rajkumar Justus, Senior Manager of Global Sustainability, and Emma Campbell, Marketing Operations Manager, who recently participated in the Cultivate conference in Chicago.

Hosted by Prismatic, a Chicago-based nonprofit that partners with local schools to deliver social-emotional learning programs, Cultivate brought together leaders across generations to explore mentorship, innovation, and community impact. Both Mal and Emma contributed to the week’s events — not just as professionals, but as passionate individuals committed to making a difference in their communities.

Emma, who serves on Prismatic’s Associate Board, reflected on the experience:

“One of my biggest takeaways from Cultivate was the power of intergenerational connection and mentorship. Two of my top takeaways came directly from high schoolers. That mindset—being open and flexible enough to see something familiar in a new light—is where I think this conference really delivered.”

Mal took the stage as a panelist on “Chicago’s Social Innovation Spotlight,” where she shared insights from her work leading sustainability and community impact efforts at tms. She spoke about the importance of starting where you are, even if the path isn’t fully clear, and emphasized the value of authenticity and storytelling in driving social change.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin, but you do need to stay curious and ask the hard questions. That’s something I’ve learned at tms where we’ve been challenged to think differently — social innovation doesn’t always start with a grand plan; it often starts with a question that someone dares to ask.

Both Emma and Mal exemplify what it means to lead with purpose. Whether it’s mentoring students, shaping sustainability strategy, or challenging the status quo, they’re showing that giving back isn’t just a nice-to-have — it’s a vital part of who we are at tms.
